The Edmonton Oilers organization is hosting a prospect tournament in Camrose Alberta for the prospects of the Flames, Oilers and Vancouver Canucks. Last night, in the first meeting the Flames' prospects squeaked out a 1-0 victory over the Oilers Prospects, here is break down of a few of the standouts in my not so humble opinion.

OILERS:

Devan Dubnyk- Goalie: You can see why the oilers drafted this guy, he's huge!! A butterfly Goalie who played very well all night, the lone goal came after he went down a second too early, aside from that he was very solid.

Geoff Paukovich- Forward: Has good size, is getting down his form really well for hitting people from behind, has broken one neck already and maybe two now.

Cody Wild- Defense: Made a few nice plays and looked very poised, has breakaway speed.

Theo Peckham- Defense: Probably the best defenseman last night on the ice, very sound.

Colin McDonald- Forward: Showed tenacity and grit, made some good plays, had the best scoring chance of the night on a breakaway that was a for sure goal if the goalie wasn't catching right handed.

Flames:

Michael Backlund- Forward: Showed why the Flames Organization picked him first round, made great passes despite the horrible ice conditions, missed a shot over Dubnyk by inches.

Greg Nemisz- Forward: First round pick in the most recent draft, went to the net and used his size all night, shows huge promise.

J.D. Watt- Forward: Antagonized the Oilers bench all night, was a buzz saw and played his checking role very well.

T.J. Brodie- Defence: Not expected to be the best flame defenseman on the night however was extremely cool under pressure and skated very well.

Matt Keetley- Goalie: Not tested too much but made two or three nice saves and one huge save on a breakaway to preserve the shutout.

If you're interested in any of the players I didn't mention I'll be glad to let you know my amateur scouting report on them!

Just wondering how you thought Taylor Chorney played?

Honestly he didn't play badly but seemed over shadowed by Peckham, whom he played with most of the night, just because Peckham was fighting and blocking pucks and just being everywhere.

Sorry I was remiss in not adding Ryan Huddy who I think was also the hardest worker on the evening.
