That second period last night was awesome!! I don't recall a first or third though...

I have to say Jordan Eberle... my hat is off to you, crazy goal there and I thought the best player on the ice last time the Flames and Oilers met in pre-season.

What as Flames fans can we take from that game last night? I don't want to be just another guys who goes crazy after a loss but there is more to this than just a loss. The Flames missed the playoffs last year...but we swept the Oilers! It was something we could hold on to, that is now gone. The high shot count with no goals to show for it story continues and one has to wonder if this is going to be a very long season. Our new tough guy that we signed for two years got KTFO my the oilers tough guy, so he is basically useless to us now. Our powerplay achieved nothing. Our penalty Kill let in a couple. Kipper did everything he could do which speaks to how lopsided the game was when I say the Oilers ONLY won by four.

Again, I hate to be all negative but there's not a lot to build on here, Jokinen was deplorable and Morrison didn't impress either. Backlund got relegated to playing with the high scoring duo of Tim Jackman and Curtis Glencross so he was handcuffed by that coaching decision. We can't even point to injuries, would the game have been that much different with Moss and Kotalik? Matt Stajan? I personally do not think they are saviors of anything.

The worst, and most disappointing aspect was the push back, or lack of it, from the Flames. There seems to be a serious lack of pride. I have heard the "it's just one game...just relax" thing but you can't ignore what you are saw last night. I remember thinking halfway through the first period that the Oilers were flying and the Flames looked timid, it would have been perfect timing for Sutter to call a time out and calm his guys down. Sadly I can't say I see any coaching improvement from last year either though, unless the theory is throw guys on the ice in order of age.

All of the worst fears realized. Too slow, can't score, and J.Bo looking like the second coming of Redden. I know it's just one game, but that sure looked like the same team that sucked royal for the last 40 last year. (Oh...it IS the same team...)

Jay Bo is actually more expensive then redden was, I have said before if he doesn't have a great season this year Flames fans will tear him apart. Rink- Yes it was, it was basically the perfect storm for a tremendous let down. Edmonton loses are like 6 regular loses, they just can't happen.

It's a long season. Flames will probably still finish higher in the standings than edmont. Was a tremendous start for the Oilers and the opposite from Calgary, but this loss might motivate Iginla and co. Great title for the blog though

Yeah, I can't understand why Backlund, one of our few players who has passing ability and knows what to do with the puck, would be put with such useless wingers.... Wow, J. Bo, Bad, Jokinen, clearly doesn;t know wtf he's doing out there....

Glencross looked like he doesn't belong in the league..... and I'm usually someone who is always over-positive about the flames, now I feel like a Leafs fan writing the season off after game 1..... get Jokinen off the first line before this season becomes a complete disaster
