I am so pumped for the start of the season. This is always one of my most favorite days during the summer. Here is the 08-09 Flyers schedule.
I would like to take a look at the first month and my initial impressions:
Sat Oct 11, 2008 Rangers Flyers 7:00 PM
Mon Oct 13, 2008 Canadiens Flyers 7:00 PM
Tue Oct 14, 2008 Flyers Penguins 7:00 PM
Thu Oct 16, 2008 Flyers Avalanche 9:00 PM
Sat Oct 18, 2008 Flyers Sharks 10:30 PM
Wed Oct 22, 2008 Sharks Flyers 7:00 PM
Fri Oct 24, 2008 Flyers Devils 7:00 PM
Sat Oct 25, 2008 Devils Flyers 7:00 PM
Tue Oct 28, 2008 Flyers Thrashers 7:00 PM
Thu Oct 30, 2008 Islanders Flyers 7:00 PM
Home for the first two versus hated division rivals - Rangers and Canadiens. I am sure both teams will be more than ready to come into South Philadelphia for a little tussle.
Next three games away vs Pens (war or has so much changed on the Pens?), Avs (they will be good this year) and Sharks (front end of a home and home). Soon to be followed by another home and home with Marty and the boys up the Turnpike - always a blood feud. Flyboys end the month with their only "easy" games of the month with the Thrash and the Isles (sorry B.D.).
This first three weeks will go a long way towards testing the moves Paul Holmgren made over this offseason and will also go a long way towards answering if Simon Gagne is "healthy" and can stand up to his first poundings and if Claude "Playoff MVP" Giroux is ready to make the leap to the NHL playing meaningful minutes on a quality line.
This schedule will also test the loss of Jason Smith and whether or not Marty Biron can follow up his brilliant playoff run with a solid start to the season against some serious quality opponents.
I am simmering in my own juices right now...
More later, as I have a Flyers' 08-09 breakdown in the works.
Man, do I miss hockey...
