What about HockeyBuzz is so special?
Having been away for two weeks and not having a working internet connection - kind of like the Stone Age - caused me think on this question.
Is it
just the rumors? The chase for something elusive before it happens? The anticipation of potential moves your club might make to make them better? Of knowing something before the rest of the world does?
Yes to all of the above. But that is not all...as there are many other "rumor" sites out there. You all know them and some of them are quite good. So what is it that makes THIS place special?
For me the answer is really quite simple: It is the people.
I missed Scoop's trivia and unfathomable knowledge of the game at all levels. I missed the lunatics in chat - you know who you are and are too many to begin to mention. I missed the excellent blogs by some of the most insightful writers in hockey - Howard, Timmy P, Garth, BD, Kevin, etc... I missed the blogs by you and me who love the game and take our personal time to write about it. Last, and not least, I missed EK's unique finger on the pulse of the hockey world and his willingness to share what he is able.
The sum is truly greater than its parts.
We are a weird bunch. John Winger, played by Bill Murry from one of my favorite movies "Stripes," says it best,
"We're all very different people. We're not Watusi, we're not Spartans"
But we all love the game of hockey and are willing to talk and write about it. That is what makes this place so special.

p.s. - Rookie camp is coming up...woooo hoooooo!
I like that I can get a fan's opinion from elsewhere who truly cares and has knowledge of his/her team. I don't get to see the islanders too much but am now fairly well versed on them due to this page and a fan's blog. I'm new but so far it's great.
As for me...well I like the 32"HD LCD Tv that I won in the fantasy hockey pool playoffs!
Hockeybuzz.com serves many purposes for me. Being a hockey fan in Cincinnati, OH is hard because not a lot of people here watch hockey. With that being said, I enjoy blogging and conversing with other hockey fans, who I probably would never meet.
Yep, it's nice to have a place to read thoughts (ramblings?) from like-minded individuals about the greatest sport on the planet. I also agree with saneopinion - I have a reason now to watch other teams I usually don't care about, just to see firsthand a player that was mentioned on the site.
Could of not said it better myself Flamestr
You're right, HB is so great because of the people, wheter it be bloggers, posters it doesn't matter. I met, and still meeting, many great people on this site from different teams (even from the Sens ;)) and it's cool stuff. Not only that but the bloggers interact with the fans and you get to know why they say things as opposed to newspaper columnist, like Howard.
I just love to be able to talk (sometimes rant haha) about hockey, with other people who love to do the same. And to be able to have other people read what I have to say, and comment on it is fantastic. I like the format better than your typical fan forum. I feel like a sports writer lol!
I think, for me, it's meeting new friends who share a common interest. it's sharing opinions and thoughts about somethng we're all passionate about. It's just the greatest hockey site on the net. I look forward to sharing after games of the upcoming season. With that said, "DROP THE PUCK ALREADY" Thanx SYF
I suddenly feel...warm...fuzzy... And I'm not even drinking! HB loves you too, SYF. And don't let Scoop tell you any different, we missed you.
