Longtime Buffalo Sabre's goaltender Ryan Miller & the ever so pesky Steve Ott are playoff bound in St. Louis. Today Buffalo G.M. Terry Murray pulled the trigger on this blockbuster deal that gave the Sabres highly regarded Chris Stewart, prospect William Carrier a 2015 first round pick and a 3rd round pick in 2016.
Western conference teams are on notice, the St. Louis Blues have just gained a double lethal edge and now are the team to beat and odds on favorite to win Lord Stanley's Cup.
Ken Hitchcock must be dancing the jig and paying for drinks after learning that not only does he have the best puck stopping tandem going into the playoffs but now he also has prize pest Steve Ott, a born leader who can put points on the board.
Right now I'm listening to Mr. Ott give the standard speech but looks like he wants to cry. I truly believe Steve Ott wanted to be here and be apart of the rebuild. I hope we can resign him in the off season.
Ryan Miller who usually himself can find words to say is tripping in his address. Rightfully so, his 12 year tenure in the only NHL home he's ever known has come to an end. I will be rooting for the Blues come playoff time. Ryan & Steve deserve a Cup.
Buffalo didn't do too bad in the trade, the main piece Chris Stewart is a hulking right winger coming in at 6' 2" 231 lbs that can give this team 30 - 40 pts a season should he be kept. Maybe we'll see him on Monday against Lindy Ruff's Stars. I can see a 2nd line of Chris Stewart, Zemgus Girgensons and Marcus Foligno.
Anticipation sucks!
In William Carrier we get a 4 yr vet of the junior ranks that if St. Louis's drafting holds true we should get a pretty good young winger who will no doubtly end up in Rochester next season.
Halak? well after the disastrous Olympic showing I'm kinda wondering why we couldn't pry Allen away instead. Perhaps he's just going to be moved before he ever pulls a Sabre's sweater over his head. However he is better than anything we have in the minors. I'm hoping if we keep him he can return to the form he had in Montreal, if so then he'll be a steal.
The 2015 1st round pick is a glorified 2nd rounder in a deep 2015 draft and perhaps the 2016 draft is soooooooooo deep in talent we could get another decent player.
So far we still have Matt Moulson, Drew Stafford and Ville Leino.
