The Baconator

We've been spoiled when it comes to goaltenders. Names that come to mind;
Crozier, Dejardins, Edwards, Fuhr, Barrasso, Hasek and now........... Carter Hutton, "The Baconator".

While Hutton is neither of the aforementioned great Sabre goalies he displays qualities of them. First off he's a calming force between the pipes, his teammates believe in him. 2nd, he has fantastic focus, Hutton doesn't get rattled, he plays the angles well and can see through traffic, gobbling up deflected pucks and rebounds.

The Thunder Bay, ON natives 7-6-0-1, 2.64 ga, .916 save percentage doesn't sound all that great, what is, is his ability to make the big saves when it counts, and his big saves singularly win games. Ladies and gentlemen what we have in "The Baconator" is a goaltender that can steal you games. Something we haven't seen in a long time, since Hasek.

At 32 years old Hutton isn't battle worn. He's always been the understudy, so he still has a little of that "new sheen" on him which is why I don't have a problem with the 3 year deal Sabres G.M. Jason Botterill gave him in the off-season. If Hutton continues to save his teammates collective bacon, stealing games and helping them gain position in the division and conference ,and if we get into the playoffs he'll become one of the best, league wide off season signings.

While the Sabre's are doing far better than last season they still haven't shook stretches of poor defensive zone play. They keep giving up pucks and have a hard time being able to quickly clear the d-zone, looking confused and not knowing what to do, between the pipes he waits and concentrates, contemplates in a split second as the puck fly's towards the net from the slot or one of the face-off dots, Carter Hutton makes save after save keeping the Buffalo in the game.
