Some teams have cap space right now and can make a trade. Having cap space doesn't mean a team will make a trade though. In fact the biggest indicator of a teams willingness to make a trade is expectations. There are few teams with that right combination of cap space and high expectations that have voids that need to be filled...possibly by Calgary who is definitely considered a seller right now.
Washington- Some forecasts call for the caps to be the cup winners this year in addition to the best team in the league. Those are some mighty high expectations! With over 5 million in cap space They have some notable players becoming free agents after this year, namely Semin, Knuble and Poti. Their top six forwards are pretty good but rumours around Semin and Fleischmann continue to swirl, One is injury prone yet skilled beyond belief and one is good on paper but a healthy scratch in the playoffs. Calgary could definitely help Washington's defence, the shut down side of it anyway with Regehr or Sarich. Calgary is looking to shed salary so taking a player going into his UFA year is always a good bet, they play hard and if they don't you just let them walk, Fleischmann might be a fit for Calgary.
Buffalo- The Sabres management and the Flames Management get along really well. Buffalo could also use a bolster on their blueline, Myers is going to be a Norris winner one day but the next best guy might be Jordan Leopold. I know from experience that is not saying much. Buffalo has something Calgary wants too, Derek Roy. Roy is Buffalo's best all around player, very consistent and plays a style that all teams love. If Calgary offered to put Regehr in front of Miller it might be tough for Buffalo to not take. They would need something else back from the Flames in terms of a forward so take your pick out of any one of our centers outside of Backlund!
Columbus- The Blue Jackets have around 6 million in space and need to win to keep the locals coming to the rink. Given the fact that Filitov has not had a good experience there and the Flames would give them a top six forward and a top tier D-man and also possibly a top prospect, say Nemisz it seems a good fit. Filitov is highly coveted in that organization though so it would be a long shot. Worth making a call on though since he only costs just over 2 million a season.
Anaheim- Tons of cap space, more than they need and yet this team is shallow on depth. They have an amazing top line but the player that makes sense is Bobby Ryan. How could they give up on Ryan though? It would be hard but Anaheim is suffering after losing Neidamayer on it's d and needs a puck mover. This may sting to some but White would be an awesome fit in Anaheim, Ryan would fit right in behind Iginla on the Flames Depth chart, a big hole that missing right now. Ryan is worth a lot and the Flames have depth players aplenty, pick a 20 goal scorer, any 20 goal scorer outside of Bourque, in fact pick two. They have the money for it.
Anyway just some food for thought.
S>O>
buffalo trade will not happen. and btw its myers not mayers lmao.
Your not getting Roy, that makes no sense for the Sabres.
good write as usual!! lizzy are u an english teacher?? u know who he meant..its all good though some pep's got to nit pick at everything. anything can happen! honestly buffalo defense isn't looking so good on paper
Lizzy, if your so concerned with spelling then you should know that at the beginning of sentences the first word should have a capital for the first letter, and sentences should not start with and. It's amazing you still knew who he was talking about.
The Leafs have cap space, cash and expectations ;)
sane I see wash/sj and anaheim as trading partners who we give up is a wild question I know who we want
Lizzy- omg r u cereus? Ralmfao!!! Sabres89 - I think you're right, just wishful thinking perhaps. Flamez there's maybe 4 guys that are untouchable right now. Could be anyone.
i counted 5 untouchables correct me if im wrongBacklund , Iginla , Kiprusoff , Giordano and Bourque
For the right price almost everyone could go. Kipper and iggy for sure. I'd put j- bo and backlund in there too. Gio has a high chance of going to market as well as white. They could be had for the right offer.
The 4 I count are Bow, Gio, Kipper, and Iggy, maybe Bourque, and maybe White because Sutter would look really bad if he traded White.. Wait a minute Sutter still looks really bad. This team is a mess.

Why is it when we hear from the brass, they only ever talk about getting into the playoffs. I understand you need a ticket to the dance, and the whole once your there "then anything can happen" but come on. Its as if Sutter has repeatedly built teams that can squeak in but are obviously not cup bound. It pisses me off.
BTW That is how I feel about this team deeeep down, but hey hockey is an unpredictable sport so we will see. And Sane it would be absolutely fantastic to have Iggy Ryan as the 1 2 right wingers...... God the possibilities.
With White being UFA him or Gio is going, if they can re-up Gio then we know. Sutter stated Gio was his priority.
sane you are right anybody can be shipped out at the right price if Gretzky can be traded anyone can be traded
Good read
Bobby can also play LW, as he often does with the Ducks, he'd fit in nicely opposite Iggy too :P
I don't think anyone's taking Sarich's 3.6m stipend for two more years. Sarich is a useful guy to have around, but 3.6 is way too much to pay for a bottom pairing stay-at-home type.
ok.. White/Stajan/Moss/1st(2012) for Brad Richards. THEN; Regher/Hagman for Bobby Ryan. Is it a stretch??
I still think the league should lock Leonsis and Sutter in a room together and tell them, "Your team so Off. and your team is so DEF, you are not leaving this room until you help each other out."
Now that Washington has missed out on Mitchell, a Regehr or a Sarich would fill their D-out nicely.... I would rather have a Regehr/Sarich than a Bieksa.....
Sarich/Regehr - Fleischmann...... Then you can maybe package Fleischmann with Moss and Pardy and grab a Dubinsky or a Callahan..... Bobby Ryan would be nice but I think wishful thinking..... More realistic would be Filatov, Malone would be nice....
The Savard rumor won't go away, but Boston wants to free up Cap space and so do the Flames, so unless we can unload a Staois/Sarich for picks so that we can take on more salary, I can't see how this deal would happen.
Yeah Boston and Calgary are in the same pickle. I think Bergeron is the guy they'd move anyhow.

Sane, no chance they move Bergeron before Savard. The offers for Savard would need to be ridiculously low, and the offers for Bergeron would have to be through the roof for it to happen.
I don't know Bergeron is ufa next year, they just re-upped Savard, are facing cap penalty for exceeding last year... obviously keeping both is what is going to happen but as the season winds down or possibly at the draft he could move for access to his rights... Krecji is also a guy they have that can put up decent numbers when given the opportunity.
hours of fun here: http://www.capgeek.com/trade_machine.php if you have a deal you think will work give it a go. richards for langkow and regehr doesn't work!! DAMN!!
