I'll trade you...

Staios- 2.7. millioncap hit sloted as #6 d . 36 yearls old -22
Toskala- 4 Million cap hit, is 7 and 12, 30 years old -36% win rate

Boyd- 650 thousand cap hit, on pace for 10 goals and 14 assists, 23 years old +5
Johnson- 525 thousand cap hit #7 defensman, 26 years old and is even.
Mchelhinney- 500 thousand cap hit, is 3 and 4, 26 years old and has a 42% win rate.
your 3rd round pick, which is also your best pick in the upcoming draft.

So in other words, we would like to give you an older slower defenceman who costs a lot, you can help our cap numbers here as well, a really overpaid losing goalie for younger faster cheaper guys and your future! WHAT A DEAL!!!

If you think that sounds like a bad deal, it is, and that is what Darryl Sutter did today. The Flames did not get any better, they in fact may have gotten worse. Say what you want about Staios I will reply, "-22, 36 and slow" and walk away. Say what you will about Toskala I will reply, " Loses 2/3 of his games". In addition Sutter gave up a third and is now paying more!!

My oiler friends are walking around like they just got laid.

I can't think of a worse deadline day in recent memory, one that left me feeling short changed and wondering if some deal just didn't go through or something.

Sutter had a few things he needed to accomplish here, getting draft picks, getting a #1 Center, Getting rid of bodies at the same time.

What he actually accomplished was giving up draft picks (or moving down if that makes you feel better), Not trading for scoring or a center, and getting rid of only one guy...who was actually not the guy anyone wanted to see traded!

Oilers fans walking around like they got laid? Should be the Flames cause they are getting the screwjob from every angle. Staois is crap, Boyd for nothing? Couldnt help but think you could have got Seidenberg for Boyd and the pick that was traded to get Staois. The Calgary Maple Flames going to miss the playoffs :(

What a disaster. Wow.

an F- is being kind.... wow just what we needed, another overpaid defenseman. its not like we needed any offensive help or anything. maybe this is the final sign for sutter. he has managed to destroy the team and make it the most useless, over paid, 3rd and 4th line players. I really don't like our team and it's not fun watching them. I guess the saving grace is we won't have to put up with another disapointing playoffs.

Its like he is trying to mess this team up as much as possible for the next GM

I disagree. Be careful not to hurt yourself as you jump off the bandwagon there. I find some people that write on the Flames no matter what they do are glass half empty people. It's really a downer. Toskala is friends with Kipper and might be able to give him the push like Turek. My Oilers fans think we got a great dressing room guy who can help bring a team together. Gives 110% every shift

I think Darryl's after his first line center... who's the top prospect of the 2012 draft?

Flames in 6, your comment is the only thing that makes sense of this trade. Maybe Vesa and Kipper can pal around together. :D

Flamesin6, I'm a flames fan. Not an Oiler fan. This move helped the Oilers which is a betrayal of the fan base. IF Staios is a good player then Sutter helped the Oil get worse (see Taylor Hall) and also took cap hit from them for basically the same player and a pick. It's okay to be a fan and critisize the team's moves too. I didn't dump on the Dion trade although I wasn't a huge fan of it either, I didn't dump on the Jokinen trade...but THIS was a bad deadline.

Ah fuck it! Stupid site I'm not re-writing that response. Coles notes version is that I think there are dressing room problems and we need someone to stand up and get the team together. From what I hear Staios can do that.

Eventually the players have to held accountable not the GM, Coach etc. Everyone is always so quick to jump on them and we've certainly pulled the trigger on enough coaches.

Has any team underachieved more than the Oilers the past few years? (Maybe not counting us). I'm worried about the Staios "leadership" value. If he can't provide that, then he is absolutely useless to us. And cost far too much.

San Jose I'd say has underachieved for about 10 years now.Toronto by their fan base has underachieved for 42 years and counting :)
