your 3rd round pick, which is also your best pick in the upcoming draft.
So in other words, we would like to give you an older slower defenceman who costs a lot, you can help our cap numbers here as well, a really overpaid losing goalie for younger faster cheaper guys and your future! WHAT A DEAL!!!
If you think that sounds like a bad deal, it is, and that is what Darryl Sutter did today. The Flames did not get any better, they in fact may have gotten worse. Say what you want about Staios I will reply, "-22, 36 and slow" and walk away. Say what you will about Toskala I will reply, " Loses 2/3 of his games". In addition Sutter gave up a third and is now paying more!!
My oiler friends are walking around like they just got laid.
I can't think of a worse deadline day in recent memory, one that left me feeling short changed and wondering if some deal just didn't go through or something.
Sutter had a few things he needed to accomplish here, getting draft picks, getting a #1 Center, Getting rid of bodies at the same time.
What he actually accomplished was giving up draft picks (or moving down if that makes you feel better), Not trading for scoring or a center, and getting rid of only one guy...who was actually not the guy anyone wanted to see traded!
