Flames Trade Thoughts

"If Gretzky can be traded, anyone can be traded."- Dion Phaneuf ... Is it just me or did Dion just compare himself with the great one? Hey Dion, you have 10 goals, relax.

Does anyone else find it ironic that Souray got his hand broken fighting Iginla who he was trying to get back at for injuring him earlier?

>>>>>
By my count the Flames are carrying 15 forwards on one way contracts and two more on two way, they only need 12 and usually have 14. In addition to that they have 8 D on one way contracts, Kronwall cleared waivers to play in the AHL. The worst part is Backlund and Lundmark have been the two sparkplugs on offense lately and deserve a shot, the contracts don't allow for that however.

I do not profess to be a hockey guru, I just have a take and put it out there, so I read into the players that were coming to Calgary and kept reading the same phrase, "solid two way", then I read the reported news from New York this morning and apparently Kotalik and Higgins are solid "two way" players. Do you think the Sutters want guys who are responsible? The funny part is after I read that I noticed Kotalik was like minus 18 or something atrocious like that.

Stajan- UFA, White- RFA, Mayers- UFA, Higgins UFA. Didn't Darryl Sutter once state he only liked to get players he could retain long term? (higgins has not be acquired at this point.)

There's speculation that Dion got traded partly because of his large contract (and also for being the massingill representative in the room) so here is a question for you to ponder, is it harder to trade Dion's one large contract or Hagman and Kotalik at 3 million each for two more years? (again as of this point Kotalik is not a flame...just asking a question!)

Have the Flames given up on drafting? They Drafted Backlund but traded for centers that make him expendable so it's back to the AHL for him, they do not have a 1st or 2nd round pick but when they traded one of their best assets in Phanuef got nothing back for him in terms of future considerations. If you don't think that's important please take note, Iginla was a future consideration when traded here as well as Regehr... think about it, the leafs got Aulie. Even though Calgary has Pelech, seabrook, Negron and Erixon, none of them are 6'6" BEFORE getting his skates on.

-I don't think anyone has ever accused Kotalik of being a solid two-way player. He is a one-dimensional powerplay specialist.-The problem with expecting futures when dealing with Toronto is that there aren't any. There are no draft picks of note that Toronto has control of until... oh, 2012.-I think that in acquiring many pending free agents, Sutter is trying to maintain flexibility so he isn't saddled with underwhelming performers that may not have chemistry (a la Jokinen).

jokinen has not performed in calgary but really they want to take kotalik contract.... I am pissed montreal helped NYR cap but please no more teams. Let them get screwed off these contracts. Kotalik should not be part in this deal unless they trade u good prospect with him for joki and not higs
