Oh my. Looks like another loss, which means a win tonight and the record will probably keep skipping. In the meantime everyone is calling for Sutter's head on a platter for putting together a loser team with one of the highest salaries.
Let's look at this calmly though. Sutter was made Executive Vice President this summer. Does that tell you that ownership wants him gone? Then they hire Feaster, a great hire. He is over qualified to be an assistant though so what does that mean? Sutter now has a watch dog in Feaster? No. If you read the tea leaves right it looks like Ken King is ready to step down from his role or revise his role and perhaps pursue other ventures. Sutter is poised to take on a larger role and Feaster is poised to become the new G.M. When this happens is anyone's guess but Feaster has already been involved with the large contract negotiations of White and Stajan, fired the amateur scouting staff and replaced them. His role is to learn the organization this year and take over so Sutter is going nowhere. Sutter will confer with Feaster about moves because in the very near future it will be his team to run but not right now. I highly doubt Sutter will be fired but behind closed doors at the deadline it may be Feaster answering the phone.
Brent Sutter is not going to get canned yet. Too many coaches have tried and failed with this group that obviously it's not the coach anymore. It's a group of multi millionaires who just aren't hungry anymore. They put on a show a shift or two but rarely give everything every game. Although that's a broad blanket statement that doesn't apply to all players it does apply to the large amount of the team. It's tough to watch if you're an average Joe trying to get by working your butt off everyday to watch these guys make millions and take the night off. If you break down what these guys make just to come to practice sometimes it is mind boggling.
We watched an entire period if not an entire game where the Flames were out skilled and out worked. The Flames have never been the most skilled team in the league but they were always a hard working team, the whip has lost it's sting though and it's much easier to just compete at an average level.
Obviously I do not include Kipper in this group at all. we owe him a giant thank you for keeping the Flames from being a massive embarrassment, as if last weren't bad enough.
Leland Irving is kicking A$% this year. Nemisz is 2nd in team scoring. Did the Flames draft well? I guess we'll see if either of these guys turn out but that would be a nice change of pace.
