First, how come there's at least 5-6 guys on here that regularly blog for the Flames but the oiler fans are only passionate enough to comment on other people's blogs?? Just saying... I get that you guys got Hall and are making some good moves but one of you wrote on Vetter's blog about the cup... c'mon!!

Okay so everyone is all thinking Sutter is all going insane like he was the star of the Shining, Jokinen breaking down a door with an axe yelling "Joki's BACK!!" but it's not that bad. Just breath in and hear me out.

Jokinen is coming off a Horrible year, he got 50 points in a horrible year, that is a really good year for a lot of hockey players. For instance the worst team in hockey, the Oilers, they only had one player eclipse that mark and that was Penner. (yeah I just put that in there for fun)

Let me put it another way that doesn't involve the worst team in hockey, the oilers. (yeah I just put that in there for fun, seriously though enjoy your jean jackets)

Hossa, Cammellleri, Frolov, J. Staal, Erat and many more players we would be delighted over having at 3 million on our favourite team all got right around 50 points last year, so thinking it was a horrible year for him...it's not that bad.

He's talented. He's big. He can Score. Contrary to popular belief the team and team mates wanted him back.

Tangauy setting him up AND Igninla actually makes me think that could be a great line, two selfish type scorers and one guy that is a great passer...

Sutter apologized to Jokinen in a way saying he never should have traded him FYI.

Tanguay- At 1.7 he;s actually kind of pricey for what he did last year but the years before it he was killing it, Tanguay has huge upside and the line with him Jarome and Langkow actually made incredible plays. Let's hope for a revival, if not he's getting paid 1.7 this year and we'll never have to see him again.

The Flames signed two guys as well in Ivanans and Jackman. If you like fights Ivanans is your guy, he's a total a$$ kicker, will never score or really even try, he's a true goon.

The joke today was that Oliwa was not available...

Jackman (Tim) is very similar but maybe more of an AHL tough guy, this might not be a one way signing however I can't confirm that right now.

Best Tweet of the day from Kypreos who tweeted Sutter signed Ivanans to walk him to his car.

****

Calgary, in case anyone was wondering, is carrying too many players now or at least as many as they possibly need. I count 12 forwards and 8 d if they sign White (Kronvall is a one way contract).

I don't expect Sutter is done, I just don't think it will be today.

The call to Boston we all thought was for Savard wasn't, but there was a call.

Agree with you on Jokinen to a point, he could be a bargain at 3 mil if he produces to his "norm". And if his teammates really did want him back then it might not be the disaster the media is making it out to be. However, the flames can't afford for it not to work out this time.

great blog and i hope you are right with jokinen not being such a bad thing but you where 100% on the money with the tweet of the day that is hilarious
July 1, 2010 10:28 PM ET | Delete
Nope! I always agree with you sane, but this time I can't. I understood when Sutter pulled the trigger and got Jokinen the first time. It was a lot to give up, and risky but it needed to be tried. BUT as the saying goes " fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me." It wasn't a horrible year that is Sutter's excuse for all his players and Im sick of it.

The problem is that its a horrible fit. Since all Sutter has done is play musical chairs with his players it will be a horrible fit again. I cant do it, not this time, I refuse to get on board with the Jokinen trade. There better be more big shuffling to come, or its going to get ugly in Cow town.

For god sakes the Leafs made smarter moves. Brian Im an idiot Murray signed Gonchar......... Overpriced, and for to long. But at least its an upgrade and I can see where hes coming from. ........... Jokinen. WTF.

I don't mind it that much (referring to Jokinen), but it really makes the Kotalik deal seem that much more painful. And where is Backlund going to fit in? I feel he needs third or even second line NHL minutes to really start progressing. Lankow is really starting to look like the ugly duckling.

Yeah pete, I'm not saying he's my first choice either but the water is under the bridge now, I'm saying it's not horrible that's all. I think there is movement yet to come as well, probably before arbitration time.

A friend of mine also pointed out he's a first line center that only had 15 goals which is true but Thornton, who is a legit #1 center had 20.
July 2, 2010 12:19 PM ET | Delete
Yea, but he's a shooter S>O>. Thornton is a passer. Huge difference. I think that at this point, you have to hope that there is something bigger in the works, but I thought that after Jokinen got traded to NYR during the season and nothing happened...

Interesting that today Sutter said Langkow's neck is only 60% and a bog concern, will he bury him on the IR????
July 2, 2010 12:36 PM ET | Delete
Does he still count against the cap on the IR? And I know hes not your first pick, but what frustrates me is after only trying one other avenue in bringing back another ex flame in Savard only to have him say no way, Sutter picked up the phone early in the day and called Jokinen.
July 2, 2010 12:44 PM ET | Delete
That to me, right there should have been the point where he was fired. I mean the flames are now the laughing stock of the NHL. Every sports network is dumb founded at this move. Centers are hard to come by, but for god sake he is not the only one out there. This is getting absolutly absurd. I now not only have zero faith in team management, but I also now HATE Darryl Sutter.
July 2, 2010 12:46 PM ET | Delete
I know that sounds extremely childish but it is 100% how I feel. The thought of the man makes me sick.
July 5, 2010 4:55 PM ET | Delete
gotta say, they are awful sensative on that Oil site
July 6, 2010 6:41 PM ET | Delete
Pete, are you still that angry now that you've had some time to let it sink in? For 3 mil, was there really a better option out there? I agree, the original trade of Jokinen for Kotalik looks even worse now. But the signing in and of itself looks like it might actually be good. At least from where I'm sitting.
