Kiprusoff- Return and potential partners
My last entry regarding Iginla and his value is being discussed once again on Colin`s blog if you want to head over there and put your two cents in.

Kiprusoff has been having a bad year, first his stats were deflated and then his injury has left him with some question marks. His reputation is all that is really tradable right now. If moved he will be moved at the deadline and so he has until then to come back and preform at a better rate to increase his value. I’m basing the below on market conditions and with the thought that “Kipper” will pull his socks up a little. Having said that, the likes of Darren Dreger et al all say he is worth more than Iginla in return. I’ve tempered expectation and come up with the following.
Toronto:
The Why: The leafs were in the market for Luongo, everyone knows that but the asking price was super high and the contract is huge. Looking to make hay in their first post season in a very long time, their goaltending is the only average part they have. Kiprusoff is a short term deal, he just has one year left after this and will only get paid $1M dollars with a cap hit of 5.83 which they could easily take on. Nonis has seen first hand how Kipper can steal games and would have seen his ability.
The Return: Calgary does not want a goalie in return, they feel Ramo will come in and be a serviceable, league average goalie. A first round draft pick and Jesse Blacker would be adequate compensation, The Flames may want Bozak added for center depth.
Columbus:
The Why: Kipper does not have a no trade clause anymore so the flames are free to shop him league wide. Columbus has three first round draft picks and a need of a proven goalie. Kipper’s high cap and low salary next year might look pretty appealing to Columbus as well.
The Return: NY Rangers 1st (currently 10th overall), Tim Erixon (can’t resist the irony here) and perhaps a roster player with grit like Mackenzie.
Carolina:
The Why: Cam Ward being done for the season while still in third place in the east. Kipper has just one more year so no big commitment financially from the canes.
The Return: The Flames cannot afford to ask for anything less than Victor Rask, the 1st round pick they want for Kipper would not be involved here. The Flames may want Jussi Jokenin for shoot outs as well but if the return involved Rask they would be happy with what they get. I could see a Kipper and middle prospect for Rask and 2nd or 3rd. Rask is a center and Carolina already has several in line ahead of him, a large cache of centers makes this possible for them.
Florida Panthers:
The Why: Theodore just pulled his groin and Clem is horrible, also they were reportably into it with the Canucks for Luongo so this is a much cheaper alternative. Again the real salary of $1M next season really plays into it here. Theodroe is UFA next year so this would really not cost them very much to do.
The Return: Nick Bjugstad, not sure what else would really be needed, big Center with skill is the order of the day for Calgary. If you see a trade alert that just says Kipper for Bjugstad and not a bevy of picks it’s OK!
NY Islanders:
The Why: Rick “glass” Di Pietro will be bought out this summer in an amnesty buy out or at the very least buried. Nabakov who was forced to play there will leave via ufa as will Tim Thomas you’d have to think. A goalie they only pay 1m to for a season who may be better than most they’ve had would certainly be worth it. The Isle aren’t out of it either, only 3 points out of a spot today with a game in hand on a few teams ahead of them.
The Return: The Flames would love Frans Neilson but as they just re-signed him I do not see that happening but one never knows, it would have to be him and a first if it did involve a player. In terms of prospects the Flames would be strong in wanting one of the following Griffin Reinhart, Nino Niederreiter, or Ryan Strome. Given the situation I think that prospect would be Nino however the Flames would want a 2nd as well. If the trade involved Strome or Reinhart I could even see a 3 rd going their way. To be clear that is two different proposals, one with Neilson, one with prospects.

I like the Islander and Canes scenario. I also think Pit could be in there as well, as their biggest weekness seems to be a game saving goaltender.
I cant see the Islanders moving for Kiprusoff. Nino is better served getting a return for a skater and Strome/Reinhart will not be moved for an aging tender.
Thanks Puck, the idea is that he costs 1M with a high cap hit. That is worth something to a financially struggeling team. Nino had a falling out there it seems, who know, it could involve a skater coming back.
FL4MES, watch more Penguins games before you comment.
Bri: 67 goals against (top 5 in NHL) you think you can win the cup again with that?
I would be happy with those returns... love to see either El Nino or Maxs brother in a Flames jersey... I would do Kipper plus Stemper or Glencross for Nino and a first.
Would it make more sense to move him in the summer though... there may be more teams interested
he is having a terrible season.... i cant see much more then 2nd round and B prospect going for him. save % 42 in the league and 39th goals against is not a gd selling point. good track record but he seems very shakey this year.
Pens issue is defense, not goaltending, Kipper is not an upgrade to Fleury, get a clue.
Well bri29, there is a certain jay bouwmeester that could be diuscussed.
Too much cap hit next year, unless they retain half of the cap hit in the trade, which is something new so it is hard to get a sense on what that would mean to what goes the other way.
they can be 10% over next years until the summer when they want to figure things out, make no mistake they want to win now. The summer can be used to figure that out.
Do you think Detroit would be a good fit for jbo. Holland has saved the space and said repeatedly he is saving it for a high calibre player rather than to use it for plugs.
