I love hockey for it's crazy and totally unpredictable nature, anyone who's played sports select here in Canada (there's legalized betting here) and tried to bet 12 games in the N.H.L. on any given night knows what I mean. Try and guess four and if you do you'll impress me! Heading into any game are hundreds of intagibles, from injuries to sickness, to back to back games to length of time on the road ect.
When I look at a team, and you hear the term "heart", you look at it's willigness to try and perservere through even the toughest accumulation of intagibles. Often when the Stanley cup is being raised the term "they had a lot of heart" is used and you know what it means. These players, although well compensated during the regular season, do not get salary for the playoffs. They are kept from their families and friends for two months longer than anyone else and not one of them is totally healthy by the end.
That's why these guys who are often younger than most of us, who sometimes can't grow playoff beards are a type of hero to us.
I love hockey for the heart of it, I love the passion that the oilers fans have for hating the flames and vice versa, I love the open ice checks that make people yell "WHOA!! HOLY CRAP!", I love the coaches screaming at the ref's for a penalty explanation, I love Kerry fraser's hair (when he's not working a flames game) I love the water cooler talk and back seat G.M.'ing we all do and that first time every season when you're sitting in your seat and the lights go down the anouncer shouts..."HHEEEEERE's YOUR _______ _______"... see you oct. 4.
Great post. I wrote an article earlier that I love hockey because of the heart and passion. You dont see that in any other sport and it carries over to the fans. I mean, we gotta have passion if we are here during the dog days of the offseason. Lets Go Hockey! (rangers too!)
Great blog buddy teaching us to love this game of hockey we all have to be reminded of how great this game is Flamestr

Kerry Fraser's hair was good, damn NHL inforcing them to wear helmets
