After a disappointing loss to the Ottawa Senators, who are brutal on the road, and a very bitter loss to their arch rivals on new years after blowing three leads the Edmonton Oilers Fans are officially angry.
As I alluded to in my last blog several friends of mine are Oiler fans and I did hear about it on new years with out even having a chance to gloat! I was receiving calls and text messages about how ashamed they are.
On the positive side for the Oilers I think you'd have to agree they came out flying and pumped up. I'd argue that Kipper was one of the reason the Flames won but also we simply have a super star player and that can make the difference some games.
In addition the Oilers had some key injuries where the Flames didn't and Roloson played very well, having said that I'm sure he'd argue for interference on a goal if an opposing player was just in his end. His act wears on officials and when players do bump him he gets the "boy who cried wolf" treatment.
One has to wonder after this week what the Oilers coaching staff will look like, there is two contests in which they can win against Dallas and the awful Islanders and two measuring stick games against San Jose and Vancouver. If they fail 3 of 4 I'd say MacT will be looking over his shoulder. Vancouver is winning despite having so many goalie injuries they traded for a 4th goalie where Edmonton has three and can't get it done so that divisional contest in a key for that team.
The season is only half over and the Oilers could theoretically win the division still but a major run and a lot of luck would be needed, even just to leap frog into the playoffs. After the massive expectations put on them this season I can not fathom the anger fans will have at missing the playoffs again should it happen. Contrary to popular opinion I like when the oilers do well because the rivalry games are more exciting so c'mon Oilers... get it together!
I cannot think of a more frustratng team to watch. Having watched every Oilers game this year (yes, even the PPV's) I can say without question that they have yet to play a single complete game where everyone is firing on all cylinders.Saneopinion is absolutely correct... they Oilers do not have that star player that can single handedly ignite a team. That player that serves as a calming presence. That player that can guide a team (especially a young team) through the lows of an 82 game season. This team is lost! No consistency. No commitment to the basic principles of the game (ie. getting the puck out of the defensive zone, fore-checking, finishing checks etc.). What thing is certain... things need to change. I have spent many an evening this season spewing an endless string of vulgarities at my television. I have no doubt that this "team" has reduced my life expectancy by 7 years.
Your opening a can of worms I am not sure you want to there buddy. The oil are still a good team, well written blog there has to be a problem in the dressing room because this Oil team is a lot better than there record is showing and I mean a lot better
I really do believe the Oilers are a lot better team that there records shows it makes me wonder if there is a problem with the coaching. This team has as much talent as any team in the league. I just do not get why they have the record they do, are the players just shutting out the coach is there a need for a coaching change up north?
yeah that's where I was heading flamester i tried to convey my respect for the Oilers but point to the recent losses and from what most oiler fans tell me is that they are all clammoring for a coaching change and if it doesn't take place is tamballini a lame duck G.M. with Lowe calling the shots??
Lowe was unwise to ship out the majority of his best PK'ers/faceoff men. It also baffles me that he thought you don't need big physical defensive defencemen in the Northwest. Thank god Staios has performed as well as he has. He would be a nice deadline addition, how do Oiler fans feel the deadline will play out? I think being a seller could make a world of difference given the depth of this draft.
