Under Achievers:
Daymond Langkow: 4.5 million cap hit- In the last 4 years Langkow has gotten 33, 30, 21 and now on pace for 15. At 4.5 million his "all around" game isn't worth it anymore. He's not Calgary's best face off center, he's not the best goal scorer or assist guy. He's not the best +/- center. What is he but expensive? If the trend continues he is going to cost the Flames dearly for two more years. The second most expensive Flame forward is simply not worth his salary.
Jay Bouwmeester: 6.68 million cap hit- J-Bo has not put up this sorry of a year points wise since his coming to the NHL, on pace for a whopping 27 points and has been replaced by Marc Giordano as the Flames primary offensive D. The expectation of Bouwmeester would have been 10-15 goals, he is probably going to end up with 2-5, each goal at best costing the Flames 1.33 million dollars. The change of scenery and his time on ice are the only things keeping fans from openly calling for his trade...and the hope that next year he gets his swagger back.
Ales Kotalik: 3 million hit- Ales (I hate that we have a player names "Ales"
has gone 6 games now without a point, not as though he's stuck with bums either playing with Higgins and Hagman. He has registered 2 points in 14 games since being traded to Calgary, if that ppg continues into next year and he plays all year he will end up with a projected point total of 12. Is 12 points worth 3 million for the next two years? If the projected totals don't agree with you we could look at his season totals and see he has a .4 ppg which would be around 32 points... I still think that's over paid.
Robyn Regehr: 4 million hit- Reggie has been his usual sturdy self on the blue line playing shut down minutes and hard hockey, at 4 million though I want plus 20 not plus 7 which isn't even the best or second best plus on the team for d men. Granted he was playing with Phanuef for the better part of the season so you know not all of the minus attributes can be chalked up to him but still...4 million?
Over Achievers:
Rene Bourque: 1.35 million hit this year- Rene has become the closest thing to a consistent scorer the Flames have lately, 4 goals and 4 assists in the last 6 games and on pace for a career year in points, the only issue with Bourque is that this will be the first season he has played more than 62 games in 4 years. In 2005 he played 77 with the hawks.
Curtis Glencross: 1.2 million hit- Glenx has become a fan's dream third liner while also having the best crowd chant (Glencross will make you wanna JUMP JUMP!), his point total is on par with the overpaid underachieving Langkow in less games played and less minutes on the ice with less quality players on his line. His speed and decent hands have made him a steal at 1.2 million and the best part is he's signed through next year! Not given his chance on a scoring line often enough while guys like Kotalik water-ski around.
Marc Giordano: $890,000.00 Cap hit- Gio...gio gio...awesome defensemen and if Sutter just signed you instead of Ericsson (makes god eye symbol) then we would not have been out of the first round two years ago. The reason Dion became expendable, Giordano is on pace for 12-15 goals...or what Bouwmeester SHOULD be doing for 6 times as much money. This guys is crafty, can pass, can score, hits and is signed through next year at this price...
S>O>
btw has anyone seen Bouwmeester finish a check hard yet?
Seriously I hate this comment system. Anyway I meant to post that JBo has never been a physical d but I'm ok with it, I doubt anyone else will be dumb enough to take Kotalik, Langkow and Regehr both have full NTCs. Regehr especially I'm not sure would be open to a deal, and Langkow's salary and crap production make an NTC in themselves
I personally belive that NTC's are really over hyped, if managment wants you gone it just gives you the ability to say no to a certain destination but almost always they move. They stay at the risk of alienating fans and team mates. I think there's value for those guys out there but you're right it could be a tough sell.
:(
He's not the clutch goal scorer that he used to be, he's not good in the faceoff circle.
I'm happy to keep J-Bow for another year and see if he can get things going. And I don't even really mind Kotalik so far, he just doesn't seem to have any kind of confidence right now. Surprisingly he seems willing to play a gritty kind of game, he just seems soft for such a huge guy. He gets his stick lifted way too easily...
Yay for copy and paste!!!
Kaberle and ?? for IGGY!!!

You forgot Ian White... a guy matching Giordano's production while providing a surprising physical element for a guy who stands all of 5'10"
You forgot that Sarich is overpaid and underperforms.
Sarich Langks and Kotalik are all up there in my top fice choices to find new addresses next year. Then again Darryl Sutter is still number one on my list.
