The obvious statement is that a 7-2 loss at home against the Capitals may have been the worst game of Hockey I have ever witnessed. The 2nd period will for sure hold a title of the worst period of all time, maybe of any club.
Getting past the obvious though there may be some things that are more disconcerting. After what has to be a low point in many of the Flames' careers, they came out incredibly flat for the third period. Not to say they weren't giving some effort but not the kind of effort you would expect from a team who just allowed 6 goals in a period. At some point you have to wonder where the desire is.
The players that I thought played well tonight were Glencross, Backlund, Morrison, Hagman, Tanguay and the 4th line. Glencross continues to be a player that is showing some serious jump and Backlund is proving he belongs at the very least in a defensive role. The other guys I mentioned showed battle and a willingness to take some punishment.
Iginla is a huge massive concern right now, there was not one point where he even looked interested in playing. After the 4th goal the old Iginla would have punched someone but he was just skating around playing with his mouth guard. Iginla is letting his actions state he wants a trade, that's what I see right now, a guy who wants out.
Bouwmeester... man this guy drives me nuts. After waiting behind the net for 20 second while the players changed he makes an incredibly poor choice in throwing the puck off the boards and having it end up in the net. That was lust a plain dumb play. Sarich looked good until he scored on himself but in the split seconds of the game I'll give him a break on that, it happens. Just like Iginla being tripped my a goalie stick and getting an interference call...it happens. They still should have won at home.
That group of Backstrom, Ovechkin, Semin and Green is down right scary. Ovechkin gets scoring chances on half shots, he's so much fun to watch it was worth the pain.
I have to think that given the outcome of the game, the serious lack of push back, the dropped leads, the lack of leadership and the privileged disposition some players (Iginla) have that there is a trade coming.
After two games and a couple losses I wouldn't normally say that, a trade is a pretty big deal for the players and their families, the management take it seriously. However there is some pieces not fitting here and something has to give.
I remember a time where if you win in the dome then you had a scar or bruise to show for it, now teams are walking in and out with their Staples easy button.
S>O>
they came out looking good, then wow did they ever fall! i think you are bang on about iggy, he wants out and out soon.
Well, the first period was good. *rolls eyes and hovers his finger above the big red "PANIC" button*
We have a good 2nd
line
hmmm... normally I agree with your opinions, this time I differ. I feel it's so easy to jump ship on Iginla.
Weak recently, yes. Done with Calgary? I don't buy it. This guy has at all times lived and breathed Calgary hockey. He gets my benefit of the doubt.
he has been the life of the flames but i think his time in calgary is coming to a close
Yes trade Iggy please! We could use a lot of overpayment for a disinterested a-hoe.
Just for the record I didn't call him an "a-hoe". He's a terrific human being but his play after 10 games is not even dub par, it's really horrible. I would love to see that change as well but last night showed me where he is.
Dont forget past seasons, even his best year, October is historically his worst month. If he sucks in Nov. then we are in trouble.
He is a slow starter but why does it look different this year?
I agree with your assessment. Iggy just doesn't look right this year. No matter if he's playing well or not, he is always fiery. This year it looks like he's mailing it in. I didn't like Sutter's comment about the best players need to fore-go personal glory in favour of the system. I think Iggy has always been about the team and the Flames need him to be the star. l think Iggy needs to be allowed to be Iggy or this team will be terrible.
Ia gree Iggy hasnt looked great but its still very early. Give him a chance. Lets talk in December
This team is still ok as far as Oct record, but man that is ugly. Poor Kip, almost every goal was not his fault and he had no chance against that team of snipers. Semin sure would look good now...and boo Brent for making kipper play the 3rd. Classless.
there is no defense right now we have to get some speed in the line up we can`t keep up with the fast teams.
I think what's Obvious here is that Sutter and Iggy are bumping heads. Its gotta be one or the other. IMO, Iggy being the franchise player his whole career stays; and FIND HIM A DECENT CENTER!!! I would never forgive Sutter if he traded him!
Wow. Why do you not have a main blog??You do some good work.
Hey Sane! Got my Heritage game, seats have converted to Centre ice Section S, Seats 28-29, Row 49, ticket price for both is $418.00. Interested?
Kevin let me get back to you! I'll message you asap
Maybe he is just having a slow start. Although if by deadline time it's looking like the Flames are going to miss the playoffs, it might be a good idea to trade away some of your assets for picks and start a rebuild. Too often teams hang onto the past. Look at my team. 20 years to Officially start a proper rebuild.
