So because Sutter was so hated we could not wait to have him gone. It was obvious that a whole serious of wrong turns accumulated in his firing. The Jokinen trade for Kotalik, the Stajan deal etc. We all know where he went wrong and we assume that Feaster can see the issues and correct them.
It's being made clear to fans that Feaster is actually of Sutter's mindset.
What did we dislike about Sutter? We disliked his recent trades. We disliked his draft record. In very short order we are going to wake up and realize that we may actually be worse off with Feaster.
Let's start with his draft history. When you look at it he drafted Stamkos with the first over all pick. This pick was incredibly simple really, they had the "got Stamkos" signs up a month before the draft. Aside from that who has he drafted? I'll tell you, in six years almost no one. A couple fringe players.
Henrich, Egener, Tobin, Hulenius... Never heard of them? Me neither. All Feaster first or second picks.
How about trades?
Shane o'Brien for the 16th overall pick anyone?? It's almost as appalling as Brad Richards and Johan Holmqvist to Dallas for Mike Smith, Jeff Halpern and Jussi Jokinen and a 4th round pick. Mike Smith was relegated to the minors yesterday. Why did they need smith? Because Feaster was paying too much to other guys and didn't have enough in the kitty for Khabibulin.
Feaster did pull a couple decent deals to be fair. The Sydor trade was a win and the Fedotenko deal was alright given how he played in 04.
So what did we learn about Feaster in Tampa that will translate into his time in Calgary?
Poor asset management
Poor draft record
Below average trade record (sound Sutter-esque?)
...But one cup.
Feaster is stating he will not trade "core" players but the reality is he has to. At least one. In my opinion Regehr. Why? He's more replaceable than Giordano, Iginla, and Bouwmeester. Simple. He's a good experienced player that is replaceable. Don't expect a first for him either, likely just a second and if we are lucky an average prospect.

Eric Francis made a comment on CBC and I've heard it elsewhere about what the flames have committed next year in Salary. While they are paying a large amount it is looking more and more like Langkow's career is over and that 4 million will probably not count against the cap. Shedding a Regeher might open as much as 8 million plus in cap room given this scenario and might be the reason Feaster wants one more year to take a stab at it.
S>O>
Sane, why do you write things that hurt me so much. This is just scary. Next year will be that much less we can get to quick start a rebuild.
I agree Sane, Feaster is not the answer to the Flames problems. Was it not Sutter that hired Feaster to help out. I assume to work together, they shared many Ideas. On the bright side, Feaster has stated several times he does not like NMC. and he has not rushed into any moves. If his first move nets more 4th line grinders, this team will be in the wilderness for years to come
Could we actually let Feaster work before we fire him lol?
Lol I think the fear is the damage that may unfold if we do! I don't think a ton of fans have really looked at what we have here now.
God forbid we let Feaster do anything first! Everyone is still out for blood. I say lets see how it plays out this season shall we
its a good point Clarick we need to give him a chance to.
Fire him now! I never liked him. Get PM
Clarke- maybe we should let him make some moves and then decide. Keep in mind though if the few assets the flames have are squandered then we could be worse off then we are now. Pretty huge gamble based on his track record no?
Sane...be more sane. Haha. Feaster wasn't brought in just to be fired now. Whether you like him or not, we're stuck with him. Really, things can't get much worse, and we're going to struggle the next couple years no matter what he does, so you might as well give him a chance and see how things go.
I never said to fire him. I just think we should take the rose coloured glasses off and be pragmatic.
I've certainly never been implied of having rose-colored glasses regarding the Flames before. Haha!
Then what do we do when we have the rose-coloured glasses off? Clarick is right, just let this cluster mess unfold, have some fun with it, its already destined anyway. Beats not having a team to bitch about eh?
If you think Feaster is the guy or not for the future is a mute point, at this time anyway, he is going to be the guy at this years deadline. I see it playing out one of three ways.(Assuming no miraculous season comeback) 1. Tinkering, small moves, and Feaser saves his cards for the draft.
2. Feaster gets a jaw dropping offer for Iggy that he or ownership can't turn down and then the gloves come off they move whatever contract they can before the deadline and again at the draft. 3. No real offer for Iginla so he shops and takes the best- maybe only offer on Regehr or Sarich or both trying only to minimize cap coming back.
I say let him finish out the season, trade off expiring contracts/spare parts at deadline, for picks. In the offseason, Make Kisio GM. Long term.
Feaster could make the best deal in franchise history! I am pointing out his record, all facts, and allowing you to come to your own conclusion. One point is that tb ownership was a mess when he was there and on no small way contributed to that mess.
If we keep beating top teams this is really going to screw up our rebuild:) What an unpredictable freakin team. Any guess who shows for Monday?
