Game Report
Jarome Iginla and Matthew Lombardi score two goals 1.42 minutes apart in the second period as the the Flames defeated the Caps 2-1. The Flames snapped a 2 game losing streak.
The Good
The Calgary Flames were perfect on the penalty kill, including a 9 minute power play. Their defensive zone was much better, limiting the Capitals' scoring chances. Cory Sarich had his best game of the season. The forwards kept track of where they were, and knew where Mr. Ovechkin was all night and did a great job on him.
Kipper Magnifico
Kipper played his best game of the season, he was outstanding in every sense of the word. That was the Kipper that the Flames need all season in order to be successful.
The Bad
The powerplay was a woeful 1 for 10. The Flames should have won this game a long time ago Their powerplay at times was hard to watch, which really puzzles me. The Flames have the forwards and with Cammy should be dynamite, yet were awful.
Overall, a pretty solid effort. Maybe their best game of the season. I was very happy. I was actually smiling after this game. Let's hope that happens more often.
Nice to see you guys get another win, and well deserved by most accounts.Whatever was wrong with Kipper seems to have infected Luongo :(
You smile?Good analysis:)
I agree with S Kaspar with Lombardi, I love his speed but he hasn't look at all dangerous. Maybe it was the flu but last night he did look as though he was hungry for goals, he took the shot when he had bertuzzi 2 on 1, he had another good chance on a feed from bertuzzi after he was knocked down. If he did that consistantly he'd change a lot of minds about him. The special teams on this team seem to never have it all together! One niht the are incredible killers but can't score, or the score on the pp but can't defend on the pk. I think S Kaspar would agree the special teams coach needs a coach. Kipper finally was solid and not "flopping" around, he looked composed and calm which is like smelling apple pie for the first time.A few more like tonight with the pp clicking as well would be great!
