BEST GAME OF THE YEAR FLAMES BEAT SHARKS
There are games, and then there is the Flames and Sharks battle on January 15th as the two big guns battled it out. The Sharks score early as Ryan Clowe opens the scoring in the first minute. The Flames actually rebounded after the first goal quite nicely, keeping the Sharks to 1-0 at the end of the period.
The Flames and Sharks exchange chance for chance, as Kipper and Nabby were fantastic. Kipper was robbing the Sharks for shot after shot. He was fantastic in the second period. Joe Thorton gives the Sharks the 2-1 lead in the second period. The Flames score another powerplay goal to tie the game at 2, Langkow scoring the powerplay tally. The Flames got into trouble in the second period, forcing themselves to kill a 5 on 3, but thanks to Kipper and the penalty kill team, the Flames hold the score to 2-2.
The third period was one of the most exciting games I have seen all season.
There is a good reason why these two teams are two of the three best teams in the NHL. Kipper might have proven why he is the best goalie in the league. Nabby robs Dion on the powerplay with one of the best glove saves I have ever seen. Kipper robs Marleau on a break away. How do I explain with mere words what kind of game this was. It was heavyweights exchanging blows. What a pass by Langkow to Dion, who actually pinches in at the right time to execute the winning goal.
Hitting in this game was on fire for both teams; I must have counted 20 hits for both teams. The intensity was wow, I mean wow, and yes the refs could not even ruin this game. The game had a playoff emotion to it, you could cut the tension with a knife. You were holding your breath with every save, and every powerplay. It was a treat to watch these two teams battle it out one of the best games I have ever seen.
The story of the game had to be the kill of 5 on 3 in the second period at the key point in the game. How does that Joe Thorton shot in the third period stay out, hitting both posts? Oh yeah; message to Bourque: don't celebrate until the goal goes in. You can bet he won't live that one down with his team mates. Final Score 3-2.
