Notes from Day 2

Mikael Backlund

Backlund continues to be the best prospect on the team. He proved it again today. He was awesome today. His skating skills were particularly strong, he was smooth and fast. He has a great shot and terrific speed and vision.

John Negrin

Negrin continued to shine today. His skating skills are best by far among all the defenseman. He has fantastic puck skills. He was skating awesomely today. He was doing the pylons on a thin dime. He was the be best skater today.

Hugo Carpentier

Carpentier was a lot better today. He never fought with the puck. He skated like I have never seen him skate this afternoon. He made quite a few excellent shots. Hugo is one of the guys you want to succeed. He never quits. His attitude makes you want to pull for him.

Bryon Cameron

Cameron really struggled today. He needs to stop thinking too much. Just shoot the puck! He seemed to feel out of place out there, whether it’s nerves or his skating need improvement. I am still happy we signed him, but it may take a while before he comes out.

Ryan Howse

Howse is still the best prospect on the Flames, right outside Backlund. He has speed to burn, but the other reason I love this kid is his puck release. He has vision and thinks two or three moves ahead. I rate him as number 2 right now.

Greg Nemisz

I am a little dissappointed inn Nemisz so far. I was hoping he would stand out for this camp. I have not really noticed him, and that’s too bad. I am hoping that he shines soon. I just don’t want him to be lost in the system. I know he has some great skill, but we really have get him to open up.

Nick Larson

Larson has been one one of the best forwards in the camp so far. He has adequate speed and a great shot. Nick’s best asset is his smarts. He is a very smart player. He has the potential to being a good player. He has great passing ability and a good shot. Nick has improved each day. I really like this kid.

Bryan Cameron

Cameron really struggled today. His skating was not the best. The Flames really have to be more patient with Bryan. I feel he will be a good player, but it may take a little while before he pans out.

Maybe he had a rough day today. Let’s hope he improves tomorrow.

Jon Rheault

If Howse is the number 2 prospect, Rheault is number 2A. Jon was the fastest skater among the forwards today. I love the quick release on his shot. He is a very fast skater and a smart player who has puck skills to burn. He probably has the most skills; once he learns how to use them, he will be the most dangerous player for the Flames.

Cam Lanigan

I had to mention this kid. Lanigan had a great day today. He is still behind the big 2, but I think he has a lot of potential. I just worry he might have the number game catch up with him; no room at the inn, so to speak.

At any rate, if you have any questions, just ask.

Perhaps Nemisz fresh off the Memorial Cup might be a good prospect to include in a package

that may be coveted by an Eastern team?

I think this is just practice for Backlund too, I think he'll really step up at main camp.
