Avs and Habs change coaches and number 2 in Toronto

The Montreal Canadians surprised a lot of people with the hiring of Jacques Martin. Can two cooks run the kitchen? Or can two Rosters run the coop if you prefer? Mr. Martin was the General Manager in Florida; can he take orders from Gainey? Can he take get back to coaching?

Many questions in Montreal. I really thought they would hire Bob Hartly, I even heard Patrick Roy or Larry Robinson being mentioned as successors. So it really caught me off guard when I heard of the hiring of Martin. The first thing that comes to mind is: has Gainey done the the same thing as Button, hiring his successor if he gets let go? I might be overreacting, but it really surprised me that Gainey went this route.

The inevitable happened in Colorado, with the firing Tony Granato. What really bothered me was them leaving Tony in wind for months. Do not get me wrong; every team is allowed to
fire their coach, but they could have told Tony they were interviewing Patrick Roy before firing Tony.

So the Avs hire within, bringing in Joe Sacco. I have heard some very good points about him. He seems to be very good with the young players, and is well acquainted with the players and the Avs' systems. I think it's a great choice. He is really known for working well with their young players.

How about the final? The Pens have regrouped after being dismantled by the Wings in the first two games. Crosby and Malkin were pretty non-existent in the first two games. Zetterberg was one man-kicking crew. He was fantastic. Helm and Franzen were a great support to Zetterberg, Osgood was nearly perfect, only giving up two goals in the first two games.

But the home cooking was very good for Pittsburgh, as they came back to win game three. The key to the win was the powerplay, with the winning goal by Gonchar with a terrific shot. Oh yeah, some guy named Malkin showed up. He really did prove why he is the one of the best players in the League. Fleury was fantastic in game 3. The second period he was the story of the game.

The goal of the series was Kennedy scoring the fourth goal in the second period, a terrific pass by Crosby. The Pens had their best period of the series in the second, scoring three goals as they have come back to tie the series up at 2.

Meanwhile, the three finalist were nominated for the Mark Messier Leadership award. The three being Chara, Crosby, and Iginla (Iggy to Calgary fans who really don't know him by any other name.) All three players are known for their leadership in the NHL and throughout their communities. You cannot go wrong picking any one of the three players. But go Iggy go! I do not have to be impartial in order to be a blogger!

There is now a new group bringing in another Toronto team. Oh my, what a surprise. The owners going for those expansion fees. Put some the feathers on me and call me a chicken! Seriously, this scenario is getting more and more crazy.
