The Flames have apparently signed the tough enforcer. This came out of left field. I really thought the Flames were beginning to look like the 04 flames. They said they were going to be younger this season. This is a contradicting to that phillosphy.
This move also adds another 4th liner for the Flames. But there could be another sinister plot in Sutter's mind. Could there be another trade coming? Could the Flames be possibly making some more roster changes? There are quite a few bodies on the farm team from last year who might make it with the Club. The Flames have many 3rd or 4th liners, including Peter Vandermeer, so why sign Lundmark? Simply put, there are too many third and fourth liners. How many do the Flames have? Well, let's see. There are Prust, Ray Vandermeer, Curtis Glencross, Wayne Primeau, Kyle Greentree, and Marcus Nilson. I could add Moss, Conroy, and Rene Bourque. I did not even mention Backlund, Boyd, and Nystrom.
Which leads to my conspiracy theory that Sutter is up to something. There are just too many third line forwards on this team. Now consider Conroy and Bourque are locks to making the team, along with Wayne Primeau and Glencross. That leaves a whole bunch of questions, which means we have a whole bunch of forwards and not too many spots to fill. And after the small trade, Sutter told the media that he has a chance to make the team.
Adding fuel to my speculation, the Flames are over the cap with Warrener's, Erickson's, and Nilson's contracts. The Flames have 5 forwards in the top 6? More than likely, Sutter and Keenan are expecting Bourque to be the 6th forward. Or is Sutter trying to add a top 6 forward to the mix?

Lundmark is a 2 way, he will spend next year in the minors. Sutter will be making more trades though that is certain at this point.
Having toughness is not necessary in the new NHL, but many teams consider having one enforcer a good thing. Roy will take former Flames, Eric Godard's spot...but I agree that Sutter signed many 3rd and 4th liners this summer, wich is intriguing. IMO, that's a decent signing for the Flames, the contract will probably be two-way so, it is not a waste of money.
All I have to say is remember a certain 4th liner or two that the Red Wings had playing for them during the playoffs. Dallas Drake and Darren McCarty did ok. This could be one of those Locker Room guys that gets the team fired up when it counts!
Another depth move to go with Lundmark...as for a trade for another top 6, as much as the Flames need it, I still am not sure if they actually have the assets. By my estimation, their only good trade bait is Sarich, Lombardi and Aucoin, and that's pretty paltry. I'm working on a new blog post where I discuss how feasible a trade for another top 6 would actually be...
I was concerned about the enforcer thing actually, we have team toughness but no heavyweight so this could be alright, he'll probably see the ice from the pressbox most nights! We are over the cap but the waived guys clear more than enough room in the end if need be, even Rhett alone would! I wouldn't epect anything huge from a trade just maybe clearing out some of those high priced guys.
No Doubt Andre has a great locker room presence. He was really good friends with all the guys on our team, and was the "class clown" you might say, in the locker room. He will certainly give you the heavyweight advantage, but does let his emotions get the best of him on the ice. He probably will be a healthy scratch most nights, but when he does play, he gives it all.
trade the habs glencrosss!! would love to have him .
Thanks Flamestr. I put this in the forms last night but people just state denial. I think he would take the focus off Bert. Calgary is going to be a very tough team to play against and I haven't been this excited for the season to start for years.
I hope no one is under the illusion that we're going to trade a bunch of 3rd and 4th liners for a top 6 forward. We better not become Leaf fans here! *laughs* Other than sending some guys off to the minors, waiving them, or trading them for late round draft picks - I think what you see with the Flames roster is what we're going to get. Those still hoping to bring in another big gun are going to be disappointed, methinks. We need to shed salary and roster players as it is to get under the cap...we're certainly not bringing in any more star players. Unless some team is for some reason loopy enough to take Aucoin and his contract and give us a great, cheap player back...
