Big Bert has been nothing short of spectacular, this season. He has the strength of an ox. He has great hands, including one of the best behind-the-back passes to Iggy tonight. It was a spectacular, no-look pass. The goal he scored was a great deke on Gigy as he breezed into the Ducks zone. He has great strength and will not be taken off the puck.
The problem tonight is he he got no support; the Flames mostly stood around for most of this game. They just did not skate for most of the game, The biggest eyesore tonight was their passing. They were not crisp on the stick tonight. Again, the defense spends too much time backing up when the Ducks forwards are coming in.
The other major problem they had was their powerplay was anemic. I found myself yelling in the pond to decline the penalty. Kipper tried hard in the third period. He did not give up that fourth goal. The Flames did show some resilience in third period by scoring in third and sometimes dominating the puck. In short, they did not deserve to win, but there is no real need to panic, they are still where they need to be.
I am first to admit that I am eating crow when it comes to big Bert. I was so ticked when we signed him. But Bert has made me eat some crow this season so far.
Over all this weekend I watched the Flames beat the Kings and lose to the Ducks. Overall, not a bad weekend, except the Flames were awful. If it was not for Kipper, they would have come up empty both games. They still have a lot of work to do, but I see the light right now, which is really encouraging.
I really should not be too hard on Kipper, so do not take this as a slam against him, but I really worry that Keenan is going to burn him out. It is time to give Kipper a break. I really don't want to see a tired and worn-out Kipper down the stretch. This is just an observation of what I have seen Keenan do in the past.
Flamestr
Nice recap Flamestr. And don't be so hard on your Flames, they played well for being such a "bad" team.
Good point on Kipper. Look what happened last year to Nabakov and San Jose. You want your goalie rested going into the playoffs. Good point on Bertuzzi also, although if he had played this well last year, he'd still be a Duck. Maybe he just wanted to get back to Canada!
I totally agree about Kipper, he played great but so what?? Why bother paying Curtis?? I think it's Keenan not trusting his youth and yet time and time again they prove him wrong.
Pun intended, but the Flames are on fire!
