Before we discuss the second round, I wanted to talk to you about a discussion between a dad and a son. My son always reminds me that the players are very human and they make mistakes and really they don’t set out to lose. He had to remind me of this over and over again as the Hawks were eliminating my Flames.

I have had conversations with my son reminding me the Flames players are my friends and they are good guys. Iggy signing everything my son has ever had. And my son got Curtis’ goalie stick; who knows if he is going to be back as the Flames’ back-up. Todd Bertuzzi is another example, bending over backwards signing my son’s shirt a couple of times, having conversations with him. Who knows who is coming back. The Flames have done everything within their power to make my son and me happy every time we seen them. I really cannot forget what they have done for me. So I am still a fan of every one of those players, come heck or high water. I am still a Flame fan forever.

I know we say a lot of things about our players when we watch them lose, which is fine, we sometimes say things we don’t mean. I really want you to remember the definition of a fan will always be the ultimate in loyalty, so yes we can be upset, but let’s not belittle them or quit being fans because they lost. A fan is a fan through thick and thin. Just remember why we were fans in the first place.

That being said, I would like to offer my congrats to the Hawks fans on advancing to the second round of the playoffs. The Hawks basically wore down the Flames, who had nothing in the gas tank for the last two games. The most impressive thing about the game of the Hawks is that the last two games were not ever in doubt. What an impressive hockey team in the first round. Toews and Kane are awesome and will be for many years to come.

The Carolina Hurricanes made one of best comebacks in NHL history in beating the Devils, scoring two goals in the last two minutes to shock the world and win 4-3. The real shame is the lack of the TV coverage most of this series. Thank goodness we have TSN 2 in Canada. Most of these games went right down to the wire, as the two teams put up a classic. It was a shame that one of the teams had to lose! Kudos to both teams.

The Rangers looked to be on their way to the second round, as they led the series 3-1, but it is often said that getting that last win is the hardest. They brought in a new young goalie, Simeon Varlamov, who changed the series. Then some guy who is supposed to be good - Ovechkin - took over the series. He made two of the best plays I have ever seen in the playoffs, both resulting in goals. Then of course Semin was also fantastic to give support to Ovechkin, to lead the Caps to a 4-3 series win.

The Wings were simply outstanding in defeating the Blue Jackets, purely dominating the first three games. Game four was a classic, 6-5. Chris Osgood was simply outstanding, holding the Blue Jackets to 2 goals through the first three games. Let me say this - the penalty against Columbus in the last minute was a penalty. Too many men is a penalty no matter how much time is left in the game. The Wings are monsters going into the second round.

Lets discuss the Ducks defeating the Sharks. Rookie goalie Jonas Hiller was simply outstanding. That being said, the Ducks young players, led by Ryan Getzlaf, Bobby Ryan, and Corey Perry, came to play. The Ducks’ awesome defense controlled Thorton and Marleau, and the Sharks had no answer. A terrific series won by the Ducks.

The Vancouver Canucks simply have the best goalie in the world on their team. Luongo is the best. The Canucks found a way to win every game, and they have one of the best pests in the league in Burrows. He was simply outstanding this series. Let me say this about the Blues - they have a great young team, and will have for many years to come. Murray Should be named the coach of the year. He has done a wonderful job. Blues fans be happy, for your future is very bright.

Great blog Flamestr, I agree totally. While watching game 6 I also found the urge to spew out insults to those players and remembered that, like me, they are only human. I hope that my 2 1/2 year old son learns from me that while being a fan is good, being a fan also means supporting your team through thick and thin!Keep up the great work!

Good point! In most cases if the fans get angry it is because they are so passionate about the team not because they hate them but as they lose fans will form opinons and will look for verification of those views from other fans. I guess it's the respect that has to be there, for instance I can't stand when anders erikkson plays but know the guy has a cup ring and is a nice guy so i do respect him for that.
