I thought we would play fantasy hockey; pretend that we are all fantasy general managers (in my case it is really fantasy). What would you give up to get the Heater? Is Danny the franchise player, or better yet, does he make the players around him better?
Well, first of all, you can bet the Sens would like to get a top dman and number one prospect. Also, maybe another forward, depending on the forward. One of the biggest questions is to the Avs, Bolt, and Isles: are they willing to give up their number one picks to get Heatley?
In Calgary, the rumors have already started with Dion for Heatley. Danny is from here, his family lives here, perfect fit for the prodigal son to come home. The main problem is that Daryl wants Dion to stay, and the Flames cannot take Heater's salary unless they send some cap back. You do have to admit though, Dion would be the puck moving dman the Sens seriously need.
In Edmonton they have loads of defensemen to pick up. Too many to mention, but I think the best option is Gilbert; a nice cheap option with tons of talent. They have plenty of excellent talent in the forwards. Danny Heatley would be a perfect fit for the Oilers, and they have plenty of forwards to chose from, including Horcoff, Gagner, and Nilsson, just to mention a few.
I think just maybe the Oil may have the most options for the Sens.
In La, I would not give up Doughty, but just maybe I might offer Johnson, a young forward, and a prospect. The Kings have plenty of cap to fit Heatley in. Can you imagine having Kopitar with Heatley on your first line? The Kings are close to the Oil in offering the best package to get Heater.
In Colorado, Tampa, and Long Island do you offer your number one pick to build your team around Heatley? I know for a fact that Snow will not let his pick go especially if the Sens want some more of the young talent in the Isles line up.
One of the strangest rumours I have heard is in Colorado: Wolski and their first pick in exchange for Heatley. I know if I am in Ottawa I am seriously tempted to get two top tens in this year's draft. I would seriously be thinking about building my team in a hurry.
In Montreal, they have plenty of cap room and a terrific dman in Komisarek; they also have the Kastsitsyn twins. Does Gainey sell the farm to pick up Heatley? The Habs do have plenty of cap room to pick up a star. Would they rather have Heatly or Vinny? An interesting question.
Yes, I could go through many other teams, but because of the length of this blog. Let's face facts, I am not the most exciting blogger out there; I mostly hypnotize my readership I would like to thank my wife for letting me do so. So back to the original question: Do I think build my team around Danny Heatly? I say yes, if I am have a team that is close to being a contender. But if I am a rebuilding team, I think not.
Heatley will not go to a team like Montreal, so forget about that. Murray will ship him somewhere west.
I'd give up dion who is one million less for a cap hit, and demand a swap of first rounders.
Good read. I think Heatley would be a great fit in Edmonton. Calgary would have to give up a lot to fit his salary, and I think the Avs are in a rebuilding process. I don't think he'd want to go to the Isles or Lighting at this point either, but my guess is he'll either go to Edmonton or some team off radar will come out of nowhere and nab him.
yes, he is a super star
No way would we do that trade... ( to saneopinion)Phaneuf still has to learn how to control his defense, and resist the impulse to always make a big hit . He can learn, but at 1 million less, right now heatley's value is better.
Normally you're right gosenators but when a player is requesting a teade his value drops especially when there is a very short time in which you want to unload him. get the best player you can for him and really dion will be incredible, it's just a matter of time, i won't be sad if he doesn't get traded.
saneopinion: But with 6 years left on the contract, Murray has all the time he wants to listen to proposals... I'd make him wait until the right deal comes along. Remember what the Nordiques did with Lindros....Made him wait and got a hell of a deal!! No urgency needed!!!
I don't know...I know it would leave us in Cap trouble but I might consider Kipper for Heater...never happen I know...but if I am fantasy GM...that could be a doable deal.
I'm all for Phaneuf for Heatley and then resign Comrie. If the Sens suck we can all turn our attention to the box with Elisha Cuthbert, Hilary Duff and Carrie Underwood.
I wouldn't take Phanuef straight up for Heatley.I would, however, do:Heatley, 39th overallforPhaneuf and GlencrossEvens out the salaries and value, in my opinion
Theres' way more at play here, Heatley gets 4 million July 1st as a bonus so that is why it's critical he gets moved sooner rather than later, in addition next years draft sucks compared to this one so you'd imagine if picks are involved it would be at this draft. A 4 million bonus, a bad attitude towards his coach and a trade demand really reduces his value big time.
