VANCOUVER CANUCKS
IS THERE MORE THAN ROBERTO?
The next team on my fan blogging tour is the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks have one of the best defenses in the League. The Canucks’ defense is not only known for their ability, but for the system and their determination with which they play. I have often heard what would happen if Loungo goes down. Simply put, the Canucks would still win without him.
This team has figured out how to win, and more importantly, do what it takes to win. I really think this team would find a way to win. I love this team for their heart, I love their grit. They have players who know their role and play their role well.
I thought I would like to mention the role players; the reason they make this team click. They have something that most teams don’t; they have players who are happy to be there. I really do think that a happy dressing room has a lot to do with this team. How many teams do you know that could still win after losing their top three dmen?
RYAN KESLER
Ryan is a terrific two-way center who is still young. He has been going good for many years. I love his grit and what he brings into the dressing room. He has 5 goals and 13 assists with a plus 7 this season. Ryan is a spark plug who knows how to get that much needed hit or big goal to switch the momentum in a game. Ryan is a great young talent who will be good for many years to come.
BRENDAN MORRISON
Brendan is vital to the Canucks for his support of the offense. Brendan has shown potential this season, putting in the important goals. He has been great this season in his own end; he is a plus 12. He has chipped in nicely to the offense with 8 goals and 12 assists, for twenty points. But again, he is very good in his own end, and is fulfilling his role. He knows it and understands it.
ALEXANDRE BURROWS
Terrific skater who loves to hit, and hit he does. You can tell by this kid’s enthusiasm that he loves to play. He brings in much-needed energy. I can’t stop talking about this kid. He does everything that is asked of him. He covers his own end, but his best asset is that he knows how to get in the players faces, getting them off their games.
AARON MILLER
Aaron is one of best-kept secrets in this league; he is a terrific stay-home defenseman. He is especially valuable right now with all the injuries to their defense. Miller is a veteran defenseman that stabilizes the defense corps. Aaron often helps to clear up the defensive end and is great support in the penalty kill. Aaron was the Canucks best signing in the off season; he was the missing cog in the Canucks defense.
CONCLUSION
The Canucks are a very good team, with the perfect blend of youth, and more important, role players. They have a solid core in the Sedin twins, Naslund, and of course some goalie named Luongo. (He is supposed to be pretty good, I think.) Seriously, the thing that makes this team dangerous is their support cast. If they do their roles, they could make this team a force in April this season (that is the playoffs in case you didn’t know).

Good points. Morrison got a bad rap for a few years by people believing he was simply a product of his linemates Naslund and Bertuzzi. He plays a good all around game. Seeing them Friday night in StL, I too, was impressed with Ryan Kesler. Defensively they are a very good team. I'm not convinced they are going to have enough scoring to carry them far in April, though. (Same story as last year).
Yup the nucks are getting back into last year's form. they started the year off in similar fashion as last year, but as soon as some D went down again, they realized they don't really have the talent persay to be competitive but they have the system, grit, and role players to win. the wild and nucks will battle for first in the division again this year.
The Nucks have played well after a bit of a rough start. It'll be interesting to see if Nonis tries to add more firepower before the deadline. Good stuff Flamestr
Great blog FLAMESTR!Nice to see an objective viewpoint from one of our biggest rivals. As you said, it's a lot more than just Luongo, but I think the fact that Lui is there gives everyone else the confidence they need to go out and work hard, knowing they'll always have a chance to win.Not that it probably would have made a difference in the final result last year against the Ducks, but those role players you speak so highly of were severely depleted by injury with both Kesler and Cooke out. Their sandpaper style was sorely missed in that 5 game series, imo.
Nice job Flame ! This team is getting to where people figured they would be. I agree with you this team would still be good without Luongo but he gives that support cast a ton of confidence which allows them to go out and do their jobs successfully ! Great read buddy !
Nice blog, Flamestr! Nice to see someone else who thinks Aaron Miller is worth a LOAD more than he's recognized for. As much as a Wild fan hates to admit it, the Nucks look great this year. I'm hoping for another down-to-the-wire run at the end of the season.
They looked pretty good on friday. Kessler's money. That one timer he took friday to beat toivo was about the only to beat that kid that night. Nice blog once again man. The Sedin twins are sick and Nausland seems to have refound himself and that's the big difference.
Good perspective Flamestr...not sure I agree with the 'effort' part but I am a critical long suffering fan..perhaps jaded! If you find me that top 6 scoring winger or get Pyatt taking shots then you can be at the front of the bandwagon!
